Transition to primary school

Starting school is a big step for children and families. Our school runs transition activities to help your child feel ready for Kindergarten and to support you as parents and carers.

Before your child starts Kindergarten

Before your child begins, you will complete an online enrolment form. This is a time to share:

medical conditions or allergies
learning support needs
family circumstances that may affect your child’s start

We want every child to feel safe, supported and included in school life.

School Tours

Parents and carers can book a school tour to learn more about what we offer. Tour are available in Term 3. Meet our friendly staff, explore our school facilities and see what makes our school a great place to learn. Call us to arrange a visit 02 6021 3849.

Kindergarten transition sessions

We run 3 orientation days for our new kindergartens in Term 4. Orientation sessions help children:

meet teachers and classmates
explore classrooms and playgrounds
practise simple routines

Getting ready at home

You can help your child get ready by encouraging independence and routines. Try:

packing and unpacking their school bag
dressing themselves and practising hygiene
following simple routines at home.

What to expect in Kindergarten

Learning and development

Kindergarten follows the NSW curriculum. Children build early skills in literacy, numeracy, creative arts, history, geography, health and physical education, science and technology. Learning through play also supports social, emotional and academic growth.

Daily routines

In Kindergarten, lessons are broken into small chunks to keep young minds engaged in their learning. Lessons begin at 9:00 am each day, and the school day concludes at 3:00 pm. Lunchtime occurs from 11:00 am to 11:45 am, and Recess takes place between 1:10 pm and 1.40 pm. During recess and lunch, students have time to sit and eat together on the playground, followed by playtime.

Best Start Assessment

At the start of the year, all Kindergarten children take part in the Best Start Assessment. This friendly, one-on-one assessment allows teachers to learn about each child’s literacy and numeracy skills. It is a great opportunity for teachers to get to know our students and determine how to best support them at school.
